10 Powerful Habits That Will Help You In 2022

Below is a list inspired by INC’s 10 Powerful Habits That Will You Become The Best Version of Yourself. My list is catered to actors seeking to improve both their business and creative skills.

1. Make A List Of Everything You Need To Accomplish The Following Week

I take a few minutes on Sunday to prepare a list of things I need to take care of throughout the next week. It helps your brain to focus on achieving the goals if you can see them laid out in front of you, rather than juggling them all in your head.

2. Start Your Day Off With Silence

Silence is one of the best ways to reduce stress in the mornings. Meditate, drink 2 cups of water, and stretch lightly. You’ll be surprised how taking control of your day from the start, puts you in a better position to handle the day’s uncertainties.

3. Enhance Your Brain’s Peak Performance 2-4 Hours After Waking Up

According to scientists’ the brain’s optimal performance takes place for a few hours after you get up. In other words, take advantage of your body’s biological clock to tune into deep work and utilize the brain’s natural tendency for more focus and deep thinking.

4. Feed Your Brain

I enjoy intermittent fasting and I am familiar with its health benefits. Therefore I usually extend my breakfast one extra hour after I wake up. My favorite go-to meals are fatty fish rich in Omega 3’s (great for improving memory), oatmeal covered in fruit and I add a spoonful of peanut butter and a handful of nuts as well. I’m also a huge fan of eggs with some salami or ham on the side. Every morning I also supplement with green juice, which covers all other nutrients provided by other fruits and vegetables. I always feel amazing after drinking this green juice mix.

5. Keep Your Email Inbox Organized

A cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind, and the same can be said about a cluttered inbox. Take the time to answer important emails and trash your junk mail. Create specific folders to keep your inbox neat and help categorize important information.

6. Check Your Email And Social Media 3-4 Times A Day

Do this in the morning, midday, late afternoon, and before bed. Agents and managers will often send out auditions later in the day so it’s important to make a habit of checking your email one last time before 8 pm. However, for both these things, I suggest setting a timer so you don’t waste too much time on them.

7. Prioritize Creativity

There are many ways to feed your curiosity. Set a couple of hours a day to watch youtube videos, learn a new skill, practice a new accent, visit a museum, spend time in character, and jump into an acting class. Don’t apologize for nurturing this habit, because this will improve your quality as an actor over time.

8. Read More Books

Reading books makes you smarter. There’s also a new study that says that reading fiction increases the connectivity in the reader’s brain. For actors, this means that reading fiction helps us connect with characters and visualize their life circumstances. This is useful for building new characters and creating empathy. Make a habit of reading at least 10 pages a day. I start and end my day by reading a book.

9. Respect Yourself

Regardless of your nationality, gender, experience, etc. Upgrading the quality of your life is strongly connected with keeping up with your value system. Practice setting boundaries every day. Actors often feel like they are at the mercy of the industry. But their most powerful—yet underused ability is their right to say “no.” Say no to time wasters, toxic people, and certainly anything that asks you to trade in your moral code.

10. Take More Risks

You will spend 1/3 of your life sleeping. Another 1/3 working. So it’s really important to make sure you’re doing something worthwhile in the remaining third. Taking bold actions will teach you about your strengths and weaknesses. You will learn a lot and you will grow. Life is short, so go out and execute.

11. Bonus- Check Your Financial Health Daily

It is smart to review your financial health routinely. “Ways to check up on your financial health include looking at your budget, reviewing or creating an estate plan, keeping track of your debts, checking your credit score, and evaluating your insurance.” Actors don’t need to be broke or starving, and a smart actor is one who learns the skills for supporting lifelong financial health and stability.
