The saying goes it’s not about how many times you fall but how many times you get back up. This isn’t always easy to do. These 5 famous actors give their advice on a common actor frustration—going in multiple times and not booking the audition.

My Words Of Advice

I tell my coaching clients that rejection is part of the job description. It’s why I focus my teaching around cultivating a mindset to face hearing the word “no".

That said, one of the hardest pills to swallow is getting called in multiple times by the same casting director and not booking the job.

There are two reasons this hurts:

  1. You want to be right for the role.

  2. You want to prove to them that you’re right for the role.

The two biggest fears when you don’t book the job:

  1. They will stop believing in you.

  2. You’re not good enough.

The Truth Lies In The Callbacks

The truth of it is if a casting director is calling you in multiple times, it’s because they like you and want to find something for you. In fact, the hard part is believing in yourself.

Remain optimistic. Ground yourself in the reality that you aren’t right for every role, no matter how much you’ve rehearsed. Finally, use the validation of a casting office calling you in multiple times as a sign that you’re doing something right!

Final words of advice: Don’t blow your chances of booking by bringing in bad work, this is a sure way to lose a casting director’s confidence in you.

Don’t worry about being called in multiple times and not booking, worry when you stop being called in.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Advice — Sell yourself less, and prepare more for the roles. Your self-worth isn’t dependent on whether you book the job or not.

Kate Winslet’s Advice — Determination and confidence will get you everywhere, especially when you walk into an audition room.

Josh Peck’s Advice — When a writer or a director create a character, they've created a problem and they need us to fill it. And they just want us to be right.

Sydney Sweeney’s Advice — Sometimes you think the way the character is, is completely different from what they want, and you can’t put that on yourself.

Ariana DeBose’s Advice — We get so few opportunities, you can't afford to not present well or represent yourself well. It's just not something you can do.
